FUCKIN THIS ALL NEWS: Tacloban City (October 2) The Philippine Army through the 19th Infantry Battalion of the 8ID once again demonstrated its zeal and devotion to duty in the service of Filipino people not only in times of conflict but also during times of calamities. The members of the 19th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under the command of Lt. Col. Lope C. Dagoy rescued fifteen families who were trapped in the flooding at Sitio Agay-ayan, Barangay Tugbong, Kananga, Leyte during the height of the onslaught by typhoon Milenyo on September 27. The three days continous heavy rains due to typhoon Milenyo, caused severe flooding in the City of Ormor and the municipalities of Merida, Matag-ob, Albuera and Kananga, all in Leyte. Lieutenant Malinche Tomarong of the 19th IB revealed that the river swelled to as high as 168 centimeters or six feet high and about seven hundred meters away from the safety area. He said that the call for help came from the Municipal Mayor at 8:00 o'clock in the morning of September 27, 2006. Lieutenant Colonel Dagoy immediately dispatched the Disaster Relief and Rescue teams of 19th IB to the affected area in order to rescue the affected families. A team from Headquarters Service Company led by Second Lt. Tomarong and one team from Charlie Company led by Second Lt. Hoseņa arrived at Sitio Agay-ayan at around nine thirty (9:30) in the morning and immediately acted to rescue the trapped families. Despite the lack of necessary equipments for rescue operations, the elements of 19IB made improvised rafts out of banana stalks and tie ropes in order to reach the affected families. At around twelve forty five (12:45) noon the rescue teams have successfully saved thirty seven persons twenty of whom were children. After the successful rescue conducted in Sitio Agay-ayan, Barangay Tugbong, the teams of Second Lt. Tomarong and Second Lt. Hoseņa proceeded to Barangay Cacao of same municipality to rescue the residents who were also trapped by the flood. Some one hundred (100) persons were assisted to proceed to elevated and secured areas. In Matag-ob, Leyte, the unit also assisted some of their residents in the affected barangays who were also affected by the flood. One platoon under Capt. Garce, the ground commander of the rescue efforts of the unit and Second Lt. Araņez proceeded to the said municipality. After the rescue efforts at Matag-ob, the Pltn of Cpt Garce proceeded to Brgy Lilo-an, Ormoc City to assist the Disaster/Rescue Team of Ormoc City in providing assistance also to affected residents in the area.
